The Tricorder Mk1is a multifunctional scientific measuring and data logging instrument. The core of the TR-107 is a general purpose microprocessor which can measure, analyse and store data from up to 7 analog input channels or one digital channel. Instructions are sent to the processor from a membrane keyswitch which forms the front face of the TR-107. The internal microprocessor looks after normal background and housekeeping tasks, as well as data collection, analysis and storage. The background tasks include Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) updating, time, date and stardate functions, and LED indicator drive signals. In response to commands from the membrane switch, the processor measures the incoming data with 12 bit resolution (meaning that it can resolve 1 part in 4096). The processor then analyses the data and converts it into a format suitable for display on the liquid crystal display screen and a second format suitable for storing in memory if desired.
